Summoning

Summoning
Ashley Almeida.

I had the pleasure of working with Kelsey Jarboe of Ascii Flower during Art Week Boston for the showcase Weird, Fantastic & Sublime–”a live literary menagerie of New England area writers of speculative fiction.“ Working with combining themes fantastical themes like magic and science fiction I created a poster to advertise the event. We went over a couple dozen thumbnails before deciding and moving along with this concept. Here’s a gif showing my progress moving from a thumbnail, to restructuring, inking and color.

Vertebrae Anthology

HELLO EVERYONE. GUESS WHAT.
Our kickstarter has launched.
We’ve got some killer artwork, created by killer artists whose work will thrill (but not kill) you. We’ve got a goal of $12,000.
The book itself not only features dozens of illustrations, but several comic shorts by our talented artists—as well as a personal bio pages with illustrated portraits! In total there are 148 pages of art work. The illustrations will all be printed in color on a coated, heavy weight matte paper. The book will be 8.5 x 11 and perfect bound with a gloss varnished soft cover. All this from 32 amazing artists.
So please check out our project. If you like gore, horror, the weird or the unusual, we would be grateful for your support!
We have until Sat, Jun 6 2014 1:54 AM EDT to make our goal.

Ascensão

Illustrating water is a constant battle.
The semester is finally over, so TAing is done. I need to assist in grading student work some time this week though. I just want to sleep and live off arroz doce, and cider for the holidays though.

The red version is printed and being sold at the Brookline Booksmith at 279 Harvard St, Brookline, MA this Saturday alongside other local artists renditions of holiday cards.

A little mushroom piece I did based off some life drawing sketches. I experimented a little with mixed media. Result: wavering satisfaction. And then a few repeat patterns I've made for fun.
Part time jobs and being a teaching assistant is time consuming as hell, by the way.

RAW Gallery: Translations - Pictures

So back in September I was a featured artist in Raw Boston’s gallery show Translations. I’m just getting around to posting some pictures form the show (I only just recently received them anyway.)

Some stuff you may have missed...

Ooops, been updating tumblr more often than here. Here are a few things you may have missed...

My broken foot is going to take 6 to 9 weeks to heal. So I should probably utilize this time to draw and practice as much as possible instead of messing around with the same couple ideas over and over again. I hope you guys like this, I’m not sure if I do (completely) yet. I want to experiment more with coloring. I feel like I enjoy the outcome and look of flat colors more than rendered, painted images. Preferences change and I’m probably going to still practice painting.

Oh boy, I made an art. I also broke my foot.
I'm such a winner: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzaDr1xwZe4
Went back to start working on older things, so updates soon? I've been sleeping a lot with the broken foot and all.

I only ever posted the finished version of the rider, so I’m reposting him with his creature. Sorry about the lack posts; I’ve been pretty reserved lately, playing video games, reading, and drawing exclusively in my sketchbook. Been very moody about my work… I have 3D illustration work I could share, but I sort of don’t want to? I think it’s very mediocre. Eh.

A couple months old. Work, sketches, ideas for a comic I plan on doing. Mostly experimenting between digitally inking, working with comics (it’s been a while), and coloring. I think I prefer my work with flat colors. It allows me to still be extremely sketchy while clear. I think my work is starting to take a better direction, but I don’t know. I wish I had more work to show you guys, but I’m not going to be posting a bunch of storyboards I did from my animation class haha.
