Hooked

So I did this from my natural history and never finished it, but went back to finish it for the gallery of pieces that's getting put up for that class.
I just want to preface this by saying that the assignment was to make a surreal piece from some life studies we did in class. These aren't Geisha, but yĆ«jo or lady of pleasure. I would have put more rods (indicating that she was popular and had many customers) into the middle lady's hair, but make an artistic decision not to.
Been watching the second season of Sherlock Homles as I finish this and holy shit it's almost 1:30? I still have my animation homework to do. Here's to never sleeping and hoping I'm not late to school. Ughhhh.

Dr. Sketchy's Sketches I

These are some sketches I did this past summer at Dr. Sketchy's. I got some stuff I need to finish, but I think I'm gonna chill out knitting while watching some Ancient Aliens.
By the way, would anyone be interested if I posted some DIY clothing projects to this blog too other than my art stuff?

Male Torso Studies

Numbered in the order that I did them. Felt like I needed to brush up on anatomy, especially male anatomy since I don't draw men as much as women. I also took this opportunity to practice rendering/painting and am relatively unhappy with it, but I think I had some improvements with 7 in comparison to one.

Please, please, please point out that would be helpful in learning to paint more efficiently and better... just problem areas in general. Color choice still bad? Too muddy? how can I improve these things?

I'm also wandering if I should try for a more painterly or cell shading type way of painting (not actual cell shading).

Everything done with photo refs.

SOPA & PIPA

Both SOPA and PIPA are bills threatening the first amendment. They'll not only create internet censorship, but they'll also break the functionality of the internet itself... meaning it'll be unstable.

Please sign this petition (against SOPA/PIPA) and call your senators asking them to vote no on PIPA.

There is also some very useful information on the Wikipedia overlay at the moment: Here.

Ommetaphobia or Ommatophobia

Fear of Eyes. He's afraid of them so he tears them out to throw them. A simple picture and a more detailed view of the sculpture/ figurine.

Also from my phobias and obsessions class.

In the future, when it's warmer, I plan on taking a photo of this little guy outside in a more natural setting.

After the crit the teacher mentioned it reminded him of Red Nose Studio, and I assure you that was completely unintentional. In my more rough sketches I usually draw noses as triangles and wanted his body to be an exaggeration of a really rough sketch you might see in my sketch book, but eh... I dunno. Any resemblance was completely by accident.

Sketch Dump

Some old, some new. From my sketchbook.
I'm in a drawing rut and have mostly been pretty unhappy with what I've been doing the past couple weeks.

Feet

I drew some feet the other day. Pretty pleased, actually.

Done with pencil, micron pen and prismacolor markers.

In the future I'll make all my art posts from the same day in one blog

Yeah, I didn't think this out too well.

Another from my obsessions and phobias class. Just experimenting...
Thoughts?

Sailor Jerry Mermaids

Also for my Obsessions and Phobias class. This was for an obsession with tattoos. I wanted to reference Sailor jerry tattoos and how mermaids were a typical motif, and then play on those references so that it was the mermaids who had the tattoos.

I need practice doing water for future work. Suggestions?

Anthrophobia and Botanophobia

I did this for my Phobias and obsessions class. I have other stuff I still need to post. I just finished a tattoo commission the other day, updated the coding on my portfolio website and need to build a website for my friend. I also have 20 hours of class this weekend, papers to write and a project. I really never can get a break. This summer maybe?

Crit please?
By the way, is it better to post one thing at a time or just unload several things all at once?

[Note update: lol forgot to upload the artwork]
